A bill to amend the Public Health Service Act, the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, and title XVIII of the Social Security Act to sustain access to vital emergency medical services in rural areas
Amends the Internal Revenue Code to provide a volunteer emergency medical service provider tax credit of $500.
Requires the Secretary to study the means by which rural areas can be identified for purposes of designating areas in which the cost of providing ambulance services would be expected to be higher than in more populated areas.
Amends title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act to eliminate the 2001 and 2002 reduction in inflation adjustments for ambulance services and to increase such adjustment by one percent for 2001.
