A bill to establish a program to provide credit and other assistance for encouraging microenterprises in developing countries, and for other purposes.
Microcredit for Self-Sufficiency Act of 1998 - Authorizes the President to establish programs to provide through U.S. private voluntary organizations (PVOs) and other U.S. and indigenous nongovernmental organizations and credit institutions credit and other assistance for microenterprises in developing countries. Sets forth assistance eligibility criteria.
Authorizes funding allocations.
Directs the Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID), in order to sustain the impact of such assistance, to establish a monitoring system that sets certain performance goals and provides a basis for recommendations for adjustments to enhance its benefit for the very poor, particularly women.
