A bill to increase the maximum Federal Pell Grant award in order to allow more American students to afford higher education, and to express the sense of the Senate.
Affordable Higher Education through Pell Grants Act - Amends the Higher Education Act of 1965 to increase the maximum Federal Pell Grant award (from $4,500) to $5,000 for academic year 1998-1999 and each of the four succeeding academic years.
Expresses the sense of the Senate that the Congress should appropriate funds to provide such increased maximum award permitted under this Act (for academic year 1998-1999 and each of the four succeeding academic years) to all eligible students.
