To provide for a demonstration project in the Stanislaus National Forest, California, under which a private contractor will perform multiple resource management activities for that unit of the National Forest System.
Granite Watershed Enhancement and Protection Act of 1998 - Authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to enter into a five-year contract with a single private contractor to perform multiple resource management activities (reduction of forest fuel loads, monitoring of wildlife and water quality in the Granite watershed) on Federal lands within the Stanislaus National Forest, California, to demonstrate enhanced water quality and wildfire risk reduction in the Granite watershed at reduced Government cost.
Requires such activities to be in compliance with Federal protections for the California spotted owl.
