To amend chapter 89 of title 5, United States Code, to improve administration of sanctions against unfit health care providers under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, and for other purposes.
Federal Employees Health Benefits Provider Integrity Amendments of 1997 - Amends Federal law, with respect to Federal employees' health insurance coverage under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB), to revise provisions regarding the debarment of any health care provider found to have engaged in fraudulent practices, including requiring (currently permitting) debarment for certain fraudulent practices.
(Sec. 3) Amends the Social Security Act, as amended by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, to apply certain criminal health antifraud and abuse sanctions to fraud and abuse involving the FEHB Program.
