A bill to authorize construction of a National Weather Service facility by the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Authorizes the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to construct and operate, on land to be leased from the University of Nevada System, Desert Research Institute (or to acquire by lease construction on such land, with a lease term of up to 30 years), a Weather Forecast Office, upper air facility, regional climate center, and associated instruments and site improvements as part of the implementation of the Next Generation Weather Radar and National Weather Service Modernization Program.

Mr. BRYAN introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred
to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation
A BILL
To authorize construction of a National Weather Service facility by the
Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
  Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United
  States of America in Congress assembled,
  SECTION 1. (a) FACILITY ACQUISITION- The Administrator of the National
  Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is authorized--
  (1) to construct, on approximately 10 acres of land to be leased from the
  University of Nevada System, Desert Research Institute, or
  (2) in the alternative, to acquire by lease construction on such land,
  with a lease term of up to 30 years,
a Weather Forecast Office, upper air facility, regional climate center, and
associated instruments and site improvements as part of the implementation of
the Next Generation Weather Radar and National Weather Service Modernization
Program for the Reno, Nevada area.
  (b) REIMBURSEMENT AUTHORITY- The Administrator is authorized to reimburse
  the Desert Research Institute for the cost of providing utilities and
  access to the site.
  (c) OPERATIONS- The Administrator is authorized to operate the National
  Oceanic and Atmospheric offices and facilities in such facility.
