IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES November 26, 1991 Mr. MOODY introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary A BILL To provide for temporary protected status for nationals of Yugoslavia. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS FOR NATIONALS OF YUGOSLAVIA. (a) IN GENERAL- The Attorney General shall designate Yugoslavia under section 244A(b)(1)(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act in accordance with this section. (b) PERIOD OF DESIGNATION- The designation under subsection (a) shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act and shall remain in effect until the later of (1) 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, or (2) the date on which the Attorney General determines that hostilities have ceased in Yugoslavia. (c) ALIENS ELIGIBLE- In applying section 244A(c)(1)(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act pursuant to the designation under this section-- (1) the continuous residence requirement of clause (ii) shall not apply, and (2) the registration period shall begin on the day after the date of the enactment of this Act and shall end on the 1st day of the 6th month that begins after the date of the enactment of this Act.
