To strengthen the authority of the Federal Trade Commission to protect consumers in connection with sales made with a telephone and for other purposes.
Consumer Protection Telemarketing Act - Requires the Federal Trade Commission to prescribe rules prohibiting deceptive (including fraudulent) telemarketing activities and other abusive telemarketing activities. Directs the Securities and Exchange Commission to promulgate similar rules and amends the Commodity Exchange Act to require the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to promulgate such rules as well.
Sets forth provisions concerning actions by States and by private persons. Provides for the establishment of a clearinghouse for inquiries made to Federal agencies concerning telemarketing.
