A bill to amend title XIX of the Public Health Service Act to provide grants to States and implement state health objectives plans, and for other purposes.
Year 2000 Health Objectives Planning Act - Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control, to make grants to States to assist with the development of a State plan for improving the health status of the State's population.
Requires States to assess the extent to which the State's health status does not meet the Secretary's objectives for the year 2000. Requires the State plan to specify the activities that should be carried out to meet unmet objectives.
Directs the Secretary, through the Director, to: (1) develop a set of health status indicators for Federal, State, and local health agencies; (2) develop model methods of data collection and reporting on whether the year 2000 objectives are being met; (3) encourage the uniform use by States and other entities of the methods and indicators; and (4) develop national data sources to measure progress toward the year 2000 objectives.
Authorizes appropriations.
