To provide for the common management of the deposit insurance funds of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation and to expand the membership of the Board of Directors of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Federal Deposit Insurance Reform Act of 1989 - Amends the National Housing Act to remove the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) from the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB). Places the FSLIC under the direction of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Specifies that all functions and activities of the FSLIC relating to the regulation of savings and loan holding companies shall be transferred to the FHLBB.
Expands the membership of the FDIC Board of Directors to include the Chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board and an additional public member.
