Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. ASSISTANCE TO NAVAL REACTOR CONTRACTORS FOR TRANSITION TO CIVILIAN PRODUCTION. (a) Notice of Contract Termination- The Secretary of Energy shall provide any naval reactor contractor with notice of termination of the contract as far in advance of the cessation of the work under the contract as is feasible. (b) Assistance- In any case in which such a naval reactor contract is terminated, the Secretary shall-- (1) allow the contractor to use, for purposes other than military purposes, the patents, designs, processes, and manufacturing data developed under the contract; (2) assist the contractor in identifying services and technologies which may be needed by the Department of Energy or other Government departments and agencies and for which such patents, designs, processes, and data may be used; and (3) establish procedures for carrying out paragraphs (1) and (2). (c) Naval Reactor Contractor Defined- For purposes of this section, the term `naval reactor contractor' means any prime contractor under contract on the date of the enactment of this Act for the production of naval reactors with the Department of Energy.
