IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES October 3, 1989 Mr. KOLTER introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Veterans' Affairs A BILL To provide for a bonus to veterans of World War II. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. BONUS PAYMENT. (a) IN GENERAL- The Secretary of the Treasury shall, to the extent funds are made available in appropriation Acts to carry out this Act, make a payment described in subsection (c) to each of the veterans described in subsection (b). (b) RECIPIENTS- The veterans to whom such payment shall be made are veterans who are alive and who-- (1) served in active military, naval, or air service of the United States during the period beginning on December 7, 1941, and ending on December 31, 1946; and (2)(A) served in such capacity for not less than 90 days; or (B) were discharged or released from such service for a service-connected disability incurred during such period. (c) PAYMENT- The amount of any payment made under this section shall be equal to-- (1) the total amount appropriated to carry out this Act; divided by (2) the number of veterans eligible to receive such payment under this section, as determined pursuant to subsection (b) by the Secretary of the Treasury in consultation with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. (d) ADMINISTRATION- The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall provide the Secretary of the Treasury with all information requested for the purpose of carrying out this Act.
