To promote fisheries and wildlife conservation.
International Fish and Wildlife Protection Act - Amends provisions of the Fishermen's Protective Act of 1987, which allow restrictions to be imposed on the importation of fishery or wildlife products from countries which violate international fishery or endangered or threatened species programs, to allow the President to prohibit the importation into the United States of any products from the offending country. (Present law only allows import restrictions on fish products for fishery program violations and on wildlife products for endangered or threatened species program violations.)
Requires the Secretary of the Interior to determine whether China, the Republic of Korea, or any other country (including any country which is not a party of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, or has entered a reservation listing of the African elephant under such agreement) allows the importation of ivory or elephant products in violation of such agreement. Requires the Secretary of the Interior if he or she determines that a country allows such importation to: (1) certify that fact to the President; and (2) notify specified congressional committees.
