IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES April 3, 1990 Mr. GEJDENSON introduced the following joint resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Post Office and Civil Service JOINT RESOLUTION Designating September 9 through 16, 1990, as `National Occupational Safety Awareness Week'. Whereas the number of injuries and illnesses in the workforce of the United States totaled 6,400,000 in 1988; Whereas job-related injuries and illnesses increased from 8.3 percent in 1987 to 8.6 percent in 1988; and Whereas nearly 50 percent of work-related injuries and illnesses were serious enough to result in 54,000,000 lost workdays in 1988: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That September 9 through 16, 1990, is designated as `National Occupational Safety Awareness Week', and the President of the United States is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe the week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
