IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES January 3, 1989 Mr. PACKARD submitted the following concurrent resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Public Works and Transportation CONCURRENT RESOLUTION Expressing the sense of Congress regarding the need for a new national long-term transportation plan. Whereas the current 30-year national interstate transportation plan will be completed by 1991; Whereas the overall growth in demand for surface transportation by the year 2000 will be substantial; Whereas in order to improve the present infrastructure and meet this anticipated growth, Congress must immediately begin consideration of a new national transportation plan; Whereas this new national transportation plan should address current maintenance needs and anticipated growth through the first quarter of the next century; and Whereas Congress should be responsible for the development of this new plan, the coordination of Federal and state responsibilities, and the determination of the use of monies in carrying out the plan: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That it is the sense of the Congress that the Senate and House of Representatives should immediately begin to develop a new national long-term transportation plan that will provide for the Nation's interstate and other transportation needs through the first quarter of the next century, and should complete such plan before the end of the 101st Congress.
