A bill to authorize the Secretary of Education to provide financial assistance to States for use in expanding educational programs in juvenile and adult correctional institutions to assist in the rehabilitation of criminal offenders, and for other purposes.
Federal Correctional Education Assistance Act - Authorizes appropriations for FY 1988 through 1993 to enable the Secretary of Education to make grants to States to carry out educational programs for criminal offenders in correctional institutions.
Directs the Secretary, in each fiscal year in which such appropriations exceed a specified amount, to reserve three percent of such funds for programs of national significance. Sets forth provisions for allotments to States of the remainder of such funds.
