A bill to amend title 38, United States Code, to make permanent the New GI Bill educational assistance programs established by chapter 30 of such title, and for other purposes.
New GI Bill Continuation Act - Amends the Department of Defense Authorization Act, 1985 to rename title VII of such Act the Montgomery GI Bill Act of 1984.
Extends indefinitely (currently ends on June 30, 1988) the required date of entry into the armed forces for eligibility for basic educational assistance entitlement for veterans (both of active and Selected Reserve duty) of the All-Volunteer Force.
Includes within the congressionally-declared purposes for the All-Volunteer Force educational assistance program the following: (1) to extend the benefits of a higher education to qualifying men and women who might not otherwise be able to afford such an education; (2) to provide for vocational readjustment and to restore lost educational opportunities to those service men and women who served on active duty after June 30, 1985; and (3) to enhance our Nation's competitiveness through the development of a more highly educated and productive work force.
