Social Security Administration Act of 1983 - Amends title VII (Administration) of the Social Security Act to establish as an independent agency the Social Security Administration. Provides that the Administration shall administer the Old Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance program under title II of the Social Security Act, the Supplemental Security income program under title XVI of such Act, the Peer Review program under part B of title XI of such Act, and the Medicare program under title XVIII of such Act. Requires the Administration to study and make recommendations with respect to methods of providing economic security through social insurance and to submit to Congress an annual report on its activities.
Transfers from the Secretary of Health and Human Services to the Administration all functions, personnel, assets, liabilities, contracts, property, and records connected with the programs to be administered by the Administration. Abolishes the position of Commissioner of Social Security.
Sets forth certain transitional rules.
