Requires the Secretary of Labor, within six months after the enactment of this Act, to institute proceedings leading to the promulgation of safety and health standards under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 applicable to the employment and places of employment of firefighters. Directs the Secretary to appoint an advisory committee to assist him in formulating such standards.
Requires the committee, in addition to its other functions, to conduct research and studies of latent diseases affecting firefighters, giving particular attention to smoke inhalation and other respiratory problems.
