Authorizes the Secretary, from time to time, to conduct additional reviews and effect additional revisions.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES April 4, 1990 Mr. ROWLAND of Georgia (for himself, Mr. WAXMAN, Ms. PELOSI, Mr. HOYER, and Mrs. BYRON) introduced the following bill; which was referred jointly to the Committees on Energy and Commerce and the Judiciary A BILL To require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to review and revise the list of dangerous contagious diseases used in the exclusion of aliens from the United States. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. REVIEW AND REVISION OF LIST OF DANGEROUS CONTAGIOUS DISEASES. (a) IN GENERAL- The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall-- (1) review the list of dangerous contagious diseases used (under section 212(a)(6) of the Immigration and Nationality Act) for purposes of determining the admissibility of aliens to the United States, (2) based on such review, publish, by not later than 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, a revised list of such diseases, which shall be effective on an interim basis pending the promulgation of a rule containing a final revised list, (3) provide for opportunity for public comment (of not less than 60 days) on such list, and (4) publish, not later than 12 months after the date of the enactment of this Act, a rule containing a final revised list of such diseases. The Secretary may, from time to time, conduct such additional reviews and effect such additional revisions of the list as the Secretary determines to be appropriate. (b) BASIS FOR REVIEW- The Secretary shall base the review and revision of the list under subsection (a) on the protection of the health of the general public in the United States and also shall consider the impact of the list on international travel and the comments of interested parties, but shall not take into account that a disease was previously on the list (or required to be added to the list).
