IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES July 27, 1989 Mr. GEJDENSON (for himself and Mr. MORRISON of Connecticut) introduced the following joint resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Post Office and Civil Service JOINT RESOLUTION Designating the week of September 17 through 23, 1989, as `National Occupational Safety Awareness Week'. Whereas more than 3,400 individuals were killed in work- related accidents during 1987; Whereas the number of injuries and illnesses in the United States workforce totaled 6,000,000 in 1987; and Whereas work-related injuries increased from 7.9 percent in 1986 to 8.3 percent in 1987: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the week of September 17 through 23, 1989, is designated as `National Occupational Safety Awareness Week', and the President of the United States is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe the week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
